Museo Sugbo

This guide to Museo Sugbo traces the building's life from an 1869 district prison designed by Cebu's lone architect, its walls partly built from a demolished church, through the Katipuneros jailed here without trial during the revolt against Spain, and on through American, Japanese, and postwar occupants who each filled its cells with a new kind of prisoner. It follows the jail's operation all the way to 2004, and the uneven path the building took afterward from courthouse to closed heritage site.
