Sapantiana Aqueduct

This guide to the Sapantiana Aqueduct in Cusco follows a colonial waterworks built in the sixteen hundreds to carry spring water from La Calera into the fountains of Cusco's new mansions, using stone quarried from the Sapantiana huaca itself. That ground had belonged to an ayllu tracing its line to Manco Capac, where priests once performed water rituals treating the spring as a living relative rather than a resource. Look up at the arches as you listen, stacked from stone pulled from a site that was never meant to be quarried.
