Q'enco Archaeological Complex

This guide to the Q'enco Archaeological Complex, near Cusco, sets up an unusual method: Inca masons here carved down into solid limestone bedrock instead of stacking blocks, the opposite of nearly everything else built in the city. It follows the staircase and the six-meter monolith cut into the outcrop, likely once shaped as an animal before colonial hands chiseled its features away, and a zigzag channel that a Cusco historian believed carried either corn beer or sacrificial blood down the rock.
