Machu Picchu HotSprings

This guide to the Machu Picchu hot springs in Aguas Calientes traces the town's real origin story, back to 1901, when railway laborers blasting track up the canyon camped at a spot they called Maquinachayoq, machine place. It follows how a sulfur-tinged spring bubbling out of the mountain gave tired crews somewhere to soak between shifts, and how that habit renamed the whole camp.
