Yap Kongsi叶宗祠

This guide follows Yeap Chor Ee, who stepped off a boat in George Town in the 1880s with nothing but a razor, cutting hair on the street before building a fortune in provisions, rubber and tin and founding Ban Hin Lee Bank in 1918. It traces how, decades later, he gave his own clan more than ten thousand square feet of land so two struggling Yap associations could finally build a shared home. Look up at the pediment over the carved doors, still spelling out Yap Temple.
