Penang Road Famous Teochew Chendul

This guide follows Penang Road Famous Teochew Chendul on Lebuh Keng Kwee from 1936, when a locksmith with no luck fixing locks, Tan Teik Fuang, taught himself to make the iced dessert of coconut milk, palm sugar and pandan noodles from a pushcart. The stall kept serving through the Japanese occupation, passed to his daughter after his death in 1972, then to his teenage son five years later, who has run it ever since.
