Bukit Nanas Forest Reserve
No. 2, Jalan P.Ramlee, 50250, Kuala Lumpur, Wilayah Persekutuan, Kuala Lumpur, 50250 Kuala Lumpur, Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur
Ancient primary rainforest on a fortified hill, the last jungle patch in a modern city.
This guide to Bukit Nanas Forest Reserve in Kuala Lumpur opens on an 1872 stockade ringed with pineapple plants, built by a Bugis lieutenant to defend the young settlement below during the Klang War. It follows the five hundred soldiers and mercenaries who held the hill for Tengku Kudin against a besieging force, the men who tried to break out toward Petaling, and Yap Ah Loy's flight to Klang as the town was razed. Silvered leaf monkeys still watch from the branches overhead as you walk the trails.
