Old City (Casablanca)

This guide to Casablanca's Old City walks the sixty-hectare walled quarter built after the 1755 earthquake that leveled the old Portuguese trading post here. It follows Sultan Mohammed ben Abdallah's decision, around 1770, to raise a fortress town instead, with thick ramparts and just three gates controlling every trader and enemy who passed through.
