Seodaemun Prison History Hall

This guide to Seodaemun Prison History Hall in Seoul opens on March 1st, 1920, when guards heard nearly three thousand inmates start a coordinated protest inside these walls, one year after Korea's independence movement began. It follows the prison back to its 1908 opening as a colonial jail, and introduces Yu Gwan-sun, a teenage protester jailed after Japanese police killed nineteen people at a demonstration, including her own parents.
