Songdo Bay Station (Songdo Cable Car)

This guide to Songdo Bay Station in Busan opens in April 1964, when a private businessman strung Korea's first cable car over open water after the city's own plan to build one had stalled. It follows the ride's run as one of Busan's must-see attractions through its decline in the 1970s and 80s, its shutdown in 1988, and the fourteen years its rusting frame stood over the beach before crews finally dismantled it in 2002. Fares back then ran about one hundred to two hundred won a trip, a bowl of noodles' worth of change.
