Preah Ponlea Sdach Komlong (Terrace Of The Leper King)

This guide to the Terrace of the Leper King in Siem Reap follows French and Cambodian archaeologists who spent the 1990s excavating by hand behind the carved sandstone wall you see today, uncovering an older, untouched inner wall built under Jayavarman the Seventh and sealed away for roughly seven centuries. Naga kings, sea serpents and celestial dancers carved into that inner wall still show crisp, jewel-cut detail, protected by a passage so narrow two people can barely stand side by side. Walk that same route the excavators once carved out, and look closely at the carvings crowding in on either hand.
