Village Market

This guide to Village Market in Nairobi follows architect Mehraz Ehsani, who in 1990 noticed Gigiri had nowhere nearby to shop and decided to design something stranger than a mall: open courtyards, curved walkways, and low sloped roofs shaped like a home. Construction started in 1992 with just ten shops, and for a while almost nobody wanted to lease them. Ehsani wanted, in his own words, a market that brings people together the way an actual African village does.
