Karen Blixen Museum

This guide to the Karen Blixen Museum traces the six thousand acres Karen Blixen and her husband bought at the foot of Nairobi's Ngong Hills in 1917 to grow coffee on land that, from the first seedling, was the wrong altitude and the wrong soil. It follows Karen alone after her marriage collapsed in 1921, running the farm from this stone farmhouse she called Mbogani, and her romance with big-game hunter Denys Finch Hatton, who flew his own biplane over these hills and stayed here between safaris. You can still walk into the room where they played the gramophone together at night, among the furniture and photographs the Danish government later returned to this house.
