This guide to Milan's CityLife district follows three of the world's most famous architects, Daniel Libeskind, Arata Isozaki and Zaha Hadid, each handed sixty one acres of abandoned trade fair grounds in 2004 to design a tower. It traces the Milanese nicknames the three towers earned, il Dritto, il Curvo and lo Storto, and the engineering fight behind Hadid's twisting design, where every floor plate sits at a different angle from the one below. Stand in the park between the towers, once the fair's old exhibition floor, and pick out the one surviving Art Nouveau building nearby.
