Arco della Pace

This guide to the Arco della Pace in Milan starts with an odd detail atop the arch: six bronze horses galloping the wrong way. It traces the gate back to 1807, when Napoleon commissioned architect Luigi Cagnola to build his triumphal front door to the city, and follows the arch through its abandonment after Napoleon's fall and its eventual completion under new owners a decade later. Look up at the bronze chariot and horses, and note which direction they face.
