Calangute Beach
Calangute Beach, Goa
Wide sandy stretch of coast where fishing boats double as sunrise dolphin-watching craft.
Calangute Beach in Goa follows a real study of the endangered Indian Ocean humpback dolphins that surface just offshore each morning. Between October 2023 and April 2024, scientist Imran Samad flew a drone above the coast, filming dozens of encounters between dolphins and the small tour boats that take visitors out for sunrise safaris. The guide asks what happens to a dolphin's day when a boat, a fishing net, or both show up at once. Watch the boats lining the sand: each one is part of an experiment still being worked out.
