Shri Yogmaya Temple, Mehrauli

This guide to Shri Yogmaya Temple in Mehrauli, said to be Delhi's oldest surviving shrine reaching back to the age of the Mahabharata, opens with an empress from the Mughal court walking here in 1812 to pray for her exiled son, Mirza Jahangir, after he fired on the British Resident of Delhi. It traces the temple's survival of Aurangzeb's seventeenth-century order to destroy it, and the vow the empress made if her prayer was answered.
