Feroz Shah Kotla

The guide to these Old Delhi ruins follows a living tradition: every Thursday, Delhiites bring handwritten letters addressed to jinns and tuck them into the fort's stone niches, asking for jobs, homes, and settled disputes. It traces that custom back to a wandering holy man named Laddu Shah who settled among these ruins in nineteen seventy-seven, and further back to Sultan Feroz Shah Tughlaq, who built the fort in thirteen fifty-four and hauled a two-thousand-year-old Ashoka pillar here from Haryana.
