Coronation Park

This park's guide opens with the fourteen empty statue pedestals still standing here, and traces them back to December twelfth, nineteen eleven, when King George the Fifth became the first reigning British monarch to set foot in India, arriving for the Delhi Durbar. It follows the two earlier Durbars of eighteen seventy-seven and nineteen oh three, and the announcement he was about to make before the assembled Indian princes. A sandstone obelisk still marks the exact spot where he stood.
