Wildlife SOS - Elephant Conservation and Care Center

This guide to the Elephant Conservation and Care Centre in Agra opens at midnight on the fourth of July 2014, when a Wildlife SOS team drove out to reach a nearly fifty-year-old elephant named Raju, chained in spiked iron after some twenty-seven owners and decades on the begging circuit. It traces how the center, built with the Uttar Pradesh Forest Department in 2010, became a home for elephants rescued from circuses and temples, and how a specialized hospital later rose on the same ground. More than thirty rescued elephants now live here in open fields by the Yamuna River, with mud pools and room to move.
