Suluban Beach

This guide to Suluban Beach on Bali's Bukit Peninsula starts in 1972, when a film crew chasing rumors of an unridden wave found a reef break here that ended up in the surf film Morning of the Earth, and put an Australian surfer named Steve Cooney's name into history. The cove's name comes from a Balinese word meaning to stoop, since the only way in is through a narrow crack in the cliff. Fishermen used that same crack for their catch long before any surfer did.
