Conciergerie

This guide to the Conciergerie in Paris follows Marie Antoinette from the night of August 1, 1793, when she was brought here to a bare stone cell watched around the clock, through her final weeks as a prisoner of the Revolution. It also reaches back to the building's earlier life as the grandest royal palace in France, built under Philip the Fair and Louis IX, and to the Revolutionary Tribunal that sent thousands through its gate. Look for the Bonbec Tower, the oldest surviving corner of the complex.
