Palais de justice historique de Lyon

This guide to Lyon's historic Palais de Justice opens beneath its twenty-four Corinthian columns, designed by Louis-Pierre Baltard as pure classical order, then turns to the trial that made the hall famous. On the twenty-fourth of June 1894, an Italian laborer named Sante Geronimo Caserio approached the carriage of France's president, Sadi Carnot, in the streets of Lyon. Baltard himself never saw the courthouse finished, dying in January 1846, a year before it was declared complete.
