Musée de l'imprimerie et de la communication graphique

This guide to the Musee de l'imprimerie et de la communication graphique in Lyon opens in 1539, when Lyon's master printers tried to swap journeymen printers' daily shared meal for eight sous in cash. It follows the printers' walkout, led by the secret brotherhood of the Compagnie des Griffarins, a strike historians call the Grand Tric and count among the first organized labor actions in French history. The strike spread all the way to Paris and closed Lyon's presses for three months straight.
