La Sucrière

This guide to La Sucrière in Lyon follows the six decades workers spent hauling sacks of raw sugar through this riverside warehouse, and the decade it sat empty after the machines stopped around 1990. It then turns to the spring of 2008, when an exhibition of more than a hundred plastinated human bodies filled the hall, and the questions two human rights groups raised about where those bodies had actually come from. The organizers maintained the bodies had been obtained in respect of Chinese law.
