La Place du Change

This guide to La Place du Change in Lyon follows architect Jacques-Germain Soufflot's 1740s facade for the city's old money-changers' hall, designed with two clocks: an ordinary one on the right, and on the left a far more ambitious face meant to track the day, month and year. It traces the building through the Revolution, an abandoned inn, and two centuries as a Protestant temple, with that second clock face left blank the entire time.
