Église Saint-Georges de Lyon

This guide to Eglise Saint-Georges de Lyon opens with the architect Pierre Bossan, not yet thirty, put in charge in 1842 of rebuilding a medieval parish church that had survived a Saracen raid only to be gutted during the Revolution and used to store hay. It follows his neo-Gothic remake, a slender spire rising above the Saone, and stone hauled in from Tournus and Saint-Cyr. The choir and apse were finished by 1859, the facade and naves not until the 1870s, decades after the parish priest Abbe Servant first gave Bossan the job.
