Cinéma Utopia

This guide to Cinema Utopia in Bordeaux opens in 1999, when a crew reinforcing a derelict church's foundations struck something unexpected. It traces the building's odd run of second lives after it stopped being a parish in 1791: a gunpowder store, then a training ship rigged with a mast and hammocks, then a cannery and a garage. Look up at the stained glass and painted beams above the screens, added by art students long after the crew's discovery.
