Portal de Valldigna

This guide to the Portal de Valldigna in Valencia opens early in the fourteen hundreds, when a crowd has cornered a man they call mad and someone has already lifted a stone. A friar named Joan Gilabert Jofre, passing through this gate on his way to preach, steps between the man and the crowd, then turns the moment into a Lenten sermon accusing the city of sheltering everyone except people like him. The guide also follows the gate itself, cut through Valencia's old Arab wall to mark the line between the Christian city and the Moorish quarter beyond it.
