Plaza Larga

This guide to Plaza Larga in Granada follows the Alfacar aqueduct that once ran water from the Valparaíso valley straight through this square, feeding a two-basin fountain, a public washhouse, and a slaughterhouse built here in the fifteen seventies. A seventeenth-century chronicler described the whole corner feeding, washing and watering the neighborhood at once. It traces the square's Saturday market rhythm since, and the Arco de las Pesas nearby, an eleventh-century gate named for confiscated false weights.
