Poble Espanyol

This guide to Poble Espanyol in Barcelona follows Santiago and a team of artists and architects who spent 1927 driving roughly twenty thousand kilometers across Spain, sketching balconies, doorways and bell towers from more than sixteen hundred villages. It traces how architect Francesc Folguera and collaborators turned those sketches into a fabricated Spanish town of one hundred seventeen buildings, raised on a Barcelona hillside in just sixteen months for the 1929 World's Fair. It was meant to last only six months.
