Mit Rahina Museum

This guide to the Mit Rahina Museum near Cairo follows two fallen colossi of Ramesses the second, unearthed together in 1820 by the Italian traveler Giovanni Battista Caviglia among the ruins of ancient Memphis. One statue, of red granite, went on to a long public journey through the city. The other, a limestone giant over thirteen meters long with its calves broken off, posed a problem that stumped engineers for decades, including a team from the British Museum.
