Schleissheim palace complex

This guide to Schleissheim Palace in Munich follows Elector Max Emanuel of Bavaria, who in 1701 ordered architect Enrico Zuccalli to design a four-winged palace meant to rival Versailles, only to lose Bavaria and flee into Paris exile during the War of the Spanish Succession. It traces his return in 1715 and architect Joseph Effner's work filling the one finished wing with French-style halls and frescoes by Amigoni and Asam.
