Police Commissionerate 15 – Davidwache

This guide to Davidwache, Europe's smallest police station on Hamburg's Reeperbahn, opens on the night of November 29, 1960, when Paul McCartney and drummer Pete Best are packing up a storeroom behind the Bambi Kino, with no light switch to see by. It follows the sailors, drinkers and nightly spectacle the Reeperbahn has always drawn, and the red-brick station itself, raised in 1914 by architect Fritz Schumacher. You'll meet Bruno Koschmider, the club owner who had just fired the band, and a precinct still covering barely one square kilometer today.
