Neue Kirche

This guide to the Neue Kirche in Berlin returns to March 22, 1848, days after Prussian soldiers fired on Berliners demanding a constitution, when close to two hundred coffins were carried up these steps and some twenty thousand people gathered to see whether their king would bend. It traces the church itself further back, a small Lutheran building from the early 1700s later crowned with a dome, and forward through wartime fire and its postwar rebuilding.
