Powder Bridge

This guide to the Powder Bridge in Prague reconstructs a crossing that no longer physically exists: a covered wooden walkway King Ferdinand I ordered built in 1540 over the ravine north of Prague Castle, linking the Royal Garden to the castle itself. It follows the ravine's later life as the Deer Moat, a private hunting ground stocked under Emperor Rudolf II, and the local memory of when and why the deer disappeared during the French occupation of Prague. Look down into the moat on either side as you listen.
