The Powder Tower

This guide to the Powder Tower in Prague traces a royal gate King Vladislaus the Second began in 1475 as a coronation gift, only to abandon it a few years later after being driven from the city. For nearly four centuries the tower stood half-finished, capped with a makeshift roof and known by a new nickname tied to gunpowder storage, until Prussian cannons tore into its carved stone during the bombardment of 1757. You can still trace the outline of that damaged stonework at street level today.
