Antonín Dvořák Museum

This guide to the Antonín Dvořák Museum in Prague opens with the coincidence that a restaurant called Amerika once stood on this spot, a century before the composer ever crossed the ocean. It follows Dvořák to New York in 1892, where he ran the National Conservatory of Music, met the singer Harry Burleigh, and grew convinced that African American spirituals and Native American melodies pointed to the future of American music. He came home to Prague still humming those tunes.
