Museo Naval del Caribe

This guide to the Museo Naval del Caribe in Cartagena starts underwater, on the June evening in 1708 when the galleon San Jose exploded during a battle with a British squadron and sank with almost everyone aboard, along with a fortune in coins and emeralds. It follows the model of that wreck now in the museum, found by Colombian divers in 2015, and the competing claims from Spain, Colombia, Bolivia's Qhara Qhara people and an American salvage company over who the cargo belongs to. It closes in the courtyard outside, over a separate money fight tied to the Jesuits who built the college.
