This guide to Manga in Cartagena starts in 1936 in a carpenter's workshop, where a young Pepino Mogollon, freshly home from studying in Pennsylvania, begins planing wood into lightning-class racing dinghies just for fun. It follows word spreading along Avenida Miramar, the neighborhood's shaded waterfront street, as friends want boats of their own and races turn into long afternoons fishing over the side. By 1938 Mogollon and a handful of neighbors, mostly known by nicknames, decide the hobby needs a proper home of its own.
