Teusaquillo

This guide to Teusaquillo in Bogotá traces the neighborhood back to a lagoon near where El Campín stadium now stands, kept as a private retreat by Tisquesusa, the Muisca zipa who ruled from nearby Funza. Spanish colonists later turned the site into a cattle hacienda. In the 1920s, Bogotá's elite built street after street of English-style villas here, reviving a Muisca phrase for the ruler's old enclosure to name the new district.
