Silva Poetry House

This guide to Silva Poetry House in Bogota follows the poet Jose Asuncion Silva through the losses that preceded his final evening here on the 23rd of May 1896: his sister's early death, and a shipwreck that swallowed nearly everything he had written, forcing him to rebuild his novel De Sobremesa from memory. It lingers on that last dinner with friends, the wine and conversation running long into the night the way sobremesa always did. Poetry readings fill these same rooms today, part of the house's second life.
