Museo de Arte Miguel Urrutia -MAMU-

Inside the Museo de Arte Miguel Urrutia in Bogotá, this guide traces back to a park bench in 1956, where the young Fernando Botero was sketching an ordinary still life of a mandolin slouched over a chair. A small slip of the pencil left the instrument's sound hole too small, and instead of correcting it, Botero let the curves swell. The finished canvas, later retitled Mandolina sobre una silla, still has a green apple floating loose in one corner, a leftover from the fruit-and-instrument table it grew out of.
