Shaanxi Art Museum

This guide to the Shaanxi Art Museum in Xi'an starts with a duck riding in a bicycle basket, one of the paintings filling the folk-art floor at the top of this domed rotunda. It follows the farmers of Huxian county who picked up a brush for the first time in the 1950s, borrowing the reds and yellows of local paper-cutting and embroidery to paint the animals and harvests they lived among. Climb the stairwell slowly and let the light from the dome guide you up to that top floor.
