Vancouver Seawall

This guide to the Vancouver Seawall follows James Cunningham, a Scottish stonemason who arrived in 1910 and spent thirty years as the Parks Board's mason, lowered by rope onto the wet stones at low tide to cut and place each block himself. You'll hear how a wall started around 1917 to hold back the tide became something closer to his life's work, and how he kept returning to check its progress into his eighties, right up to his death in 1963 with it still unfinished.
