Brockton Point Lighthouse

This guide to Brockton Point Lighthouse introduces Captain William D. Jones, a Welsh lighthouse keeper who arrived in 1890, built his own driftwood shack when no house was provided, and spent decades tending the light, ringing the fog bell, and pulling drowning sailors from the harbor. Between rescues he planted elaborate flower beds, including a twelve-foot flower sundial, and sold the blooms for charity. He served as keeper for thirty-four years, one of the longest tenures on this stretch of harbor.
