Chinatown

This guide to Montreal's Chinatown traces the neighborhood from its start in the 1890s, when Chinese railway workers no longer needed after the Canadian Pacific line opened shops like Jung Fook and Wong Wing, through decades of government expropriation that flattened blocks for Hydro-Quebec, Complexe Desjardins, and the federal Complexe Guy-Favreau. It follows the Wing Building, an 1826 stone survivor of all that clearing, into a 2021 property sale that put its future in question.
