St Michael & St Gudula Cathedral

This guide to St Michael and St Gudula Cathedral in Brussels follows the legend of Gudula, a noblewoman born around 646 who walked through a dark thicket to church each night carrying a lantern the devil kept trying to snuff out. It traces her relics after her death around 712, through a chapter founded in her honor in 1047, up to a Protestant riot in June 1579 that stormed the church and scattered them.
