St. Giles Church

This guide to Saint Giles Church in Bruges opens with a mystery: master painter Hans Memling was buried here in fourteen ninety-four alongside three more of the city's great Renaissance painters, yet no marked grave for any of them survives today. It follows Memling's rise from an incomer around fourteen sixty-five to one of the city's richest citizens and workshop owners, and the church's own long history of rebuilding, from its founding around twelve forty through Baroque additions to a neo-Gothic overhaul.
