Chapel Street

This guide to Chapel Street in Melbourne starts with a single unnamed wooden chapel on a dirt track around 1850, decades before the boutiques and nightlife that now line the strip. It follows the settler who built the street's first house, the ferry crossing that preceded any bridge over the Yarra, and the small church whose name outlived its own walls after it was pulled down.
